BIOGRAPHY

Dr Mahmood is a Senior Legal Counsel in the Litigation/Arbitration department of MTG Legal following a successful career at the English Bar and in Bermuda. He was called to the bar of England & Wales in 2002.  Dr Mahmood is a barrister with multi-jurisdictional experience specializing in international commercial dispute resolution (litigation, arbitration and mediation), construction, restructuring, chancery, private/corporate insolvency litigation, insurance/re-insurance litigation, commodity disputes and trust matters.  Dr Mahmood has more than 20 years’ experience in representing clients in a wide variety of complex commercial disputes in London, Asia and the Middle East.

Dr Mahmood has been appointed on numerous arbitration/mediation panels throughout the world. He has appeared as counsel in arbitrations conducted under major institutional rules. Dr Mahmood sits as an arbitrator on a regular basis and has conducted numerous mediations.

He has lectured and publishes regularly on topics relating to international arbitration, mediation and  issues of diversity in the legal profession. He has been appointed a ‘Visiting Professor’ at Durham University and a ‘Honorary Senior Lecturer’ at the University of Keele.  He was elected to the ‘Bar Representation Committee’ of Lincoln’s Inn and Bar Council of England and Wales.

He is on the ‘Approved Faculty List (AFL) with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and provides training in International Arbitration, Domestic Arbitration and Mediation.

Instructed by a leading law firm in KSA to advise on a complex commercial dispute valued over $700 million (issues relating to limitation, fraud, arbitration, English law/Saudi Law) (2025)

Instructed by a property developer in a complex construction dispute (value £6 million) (2025)

Instructed in a complex taxation matter (Bahamas) – drafting points of dispute and skeleton argument and appearance before the courts (2025)

Hamad Alharoun v (1) Qatar National Bank Q.P.S.C (2) QNB Capital LLC – Instructed in advising Mr Al-Haroun in relation to a jurisdictional challenge based on forum non-conveniens, amending pleadings and advising on the arbitration agreement and hearings. (2025)

Richard Escobar and Others v Chub Cay Realty LLC (The Bahamas) – Instructed in advising Chub Cay Realty LLC on merits of seeking permission to appeal to the privy Council. (2025)

Parties Confidential – Bermuda Form Arbitration – Acted as Counsel in respect to complex 12 -day insurance/reinsurance arbitration.  Value of claim in excess $40 million (2023)
